Why oh why did that happen? But let’s start at the beginning. In A Heart so Fierce and Broken we mainly follow Grey and Lia Mara, a daughter of Karis Lunar. Rhen and Harper only play a very minor role. Grey runs away from Emberfall so that no one finds out that he is the rightful heir to the throne and he falls in love with Lia Mara on this way.
The book was nice and easy to read. The story in itself is not a bad one and it’s not that I didn’t like it but there is a big BUT coming. First of all Rhen kind of turned into the villain as he tries to turture Grey to get the information he wants about the heir and in the end seems to plot with Lilith. I like Grey but why does Rhen have to be turned onto a bad guy??? It reminded me far too much of A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas. So this book for me lacks an original idea as it seems I’ve kind of read it all before somewhere already. I suppose if you haven’t read Sarah J. Maas series before, it is a really good series. I’d also recommend this book to young readers instead of Sarah J. Maas‘ book series as there is romance but no steaming sex scenes (which might make her books more interesting for adults ;-))
I’ll definitely read the last book of the trilogy, still hoping that Rhen and Harper find a good ending too.
